For the past twenty years I have devoted myself to the art of creating traditional hand thrown vessels, each with their own unique properties. Recently I have been increasingly moved by the use of different colors encountered in my everyday life. My eyes capture the deep reds, electric yellows, muted oranges and pale greens I see at local farmers markets. Taking them home to use them in my artwork transforms a trip to the market into a celebration of life!
Gradually, I have been adding a brighter palette of colors and shades to my works. New hues of lemon yellow, tangerine orange, spring green and tomato red have replaced the tradition earthen tone of my usual ceramic glazes. All of my glazes are silica based glasses mixed with natural pigments applied to works of white clay, allowing me to make the most of the bright colors.
